Richard Steip

Elder

Rich was raised in Fair Lawn and Sparta, NJ in a Roman Catholic, hard-working, athletic, and achievement-oriented family.  He did not really have Jesus as his Lord and Savior until he was 41.  He had sought God for several years, but came to know Christ by reading His Word, especially the tenth chapter of the Gospel of John, and started attending churches regularly soon after.

In 2000, Rich began attending KHC.  Soon after coming to KHC, he became the worship band percussionist and has continuing serving in this way since, except when health issues led him to take a few years off.  He also served on the church council for 3 years.  Rich went to Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC) about 6 years ago.

When serving at KHC, Rich enjoys encouraging others and being encouraged by others to grow in the faith and walk more closely with Jesus.  When he was asked to consider becoming an elder at KHC, Rich was humbly drawn to God asking him to sacrifice for the Body of Christ that which He had given Rich over the years of practicing Medicine as a Psychiatrist and his experiences in worship and church council, etc.  Having been married to his wonderful and Godly wife, Susan (Scotti), for 46 years also helped prepare Rich for the elder assignment!  Rich and Scotti are blessed to be the parents of 3 wonderful children and are eagerly expecting the arrival of their 8th grandchild this May.  Rich’s family life helped to prepare him for the elder role as well by teaching him the necessity of loving, giving and taking, cooperation, and sacrifice for the good of all.  It also taught him that selfishness does not lead to Godliness or His unspeakable joy!

On January 1, 2016, Rich retired from Psychiatry after 37 ½ years in solo private practice.  He is an avid reader of the Bible and Christian authors.  Over the years, Rich has enjoyed hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing (and hopes to do more soon).  He values family time with Scotti, their kids, and grandkids.  Rich and Scotti treasure hiking the national park trails.
